EARLY LIFE
During her childhood, Betsey hoped to become a dancer, so she started sewing dance costumes, in order to pay for her classes. In her teens though, Betsey's dance passion was soon replaced by a fondness for fashion. A passion which further culminated in her final college year, when she was crowned the guest fabric editor at 'Mademoiselle magazine'.
There, Betsey not only reviewed hundreds of fabric samples, but also recycled the scrap remains into her unique creations - all of which, became popular gossip topics in the editorial office! Which explains why, just one year after her Mademoiselle position, Betsey launched her clothing line, with the help of the boutique owner, Paul Young. And why later, in 1969, she opened the 'Bunky & Nini' store, with her two friends.

RECENT DEVELOPMENTS
Initially, Betsey was associated with ballerina-tutus, and pop-art patterned dresses, but after the birth of her daughter, Lulu, in 1975, Betsey focused maternity & children's wear. That is until 1979, when she finally morphed into the spunky, wild-haired woman we love today, with the launch of Betsey Johnson, Inc,.
