About Boffism
Boffism is a fashion blog, created in April 2011, written by Lara Boffa. The name of the blog derives from the blogger's own surname, who says that she needed a name that made it clear that she intended to convey her fashion ideology. The blog does not only deal with the odd and fascinating things happening in the fashion industry, but it also gives an insight into the fashion-oriented life of its writer. Lara says that she tries to serve her posts with 'the usual dose of sarcasm'.
About Lara
Lara was born in 1989 in Malta, and currently lives in a small village in the South of this Mediterranean island. However, Lara confesses that she would like to move out of the country and preferably settle in Paris. She attended an all-girls Church school in her primary and secondary school years and then studied languages at De La Salle College in Vittoriosa. After graduating with a B.A. (Hons.) in English from the University of Malta, Lara chose to pursue a Masters Degree in Interpreting at the same institution. She wants to become an interpreter and a fashion writer.
Lara believes that it was impossible for her not to love fashion. She declares that she spent her childhood and adolescence watching her mother sewing clothes or visiting shops with one of her older cousins. She also states that she has been following fashion blogs ever since she got an internet connection and struggled to find the courage to get her voice out there through her own blog. Lara believes that there is no 'quintessential difference between getting dressed in the morning and painting a picture' and that fashion is a form of art that allows everyone to become a little artist. The blogger describes herself as someone you either love or hate and as a person who is too honest for her own good.
The blogger behind Boffism has also written for a number of local magazines, including Femme Magazine and Manic Magazine, as well as for international websites. She was also listed as one of Ron Van Maarshalkerweerd's, a renowned local designer, blogs to watch.
Lara describes her style as very 'hard to pin down', also stating that she has a weakness for anything Chanel, Lagerfeld, androgynous and minimal. She also confesses that she owns more men-inspired pieces than feminine numbers. Yet, her style also levitates towards classic feminine details such as pearls, faux fur, red lips, and hats. Lara declares that in recent months her love for vintage pieces has dramatically altered her style. Her main vintage inspirations come from the 1920s, 1960s and the 1970s.
Among her many fashion icons, Lara mentions Blair Waldorf, Audrey Hepburn, Grace Kelly, Olivia Palermo, the Olsen twins and her ultimate role model, Anna Wintour.
