About Antoinette
Antoinette is a student at Penn State University, studying Print Journalism. She is the Editor-in-Chief of M.O.O.D. Magazine and serves as a contributor to:
My name is Antoinette Francis. I am currently a Print Journalism major, minoring in French and Human Development & Family Studies, at The Pennsylvania State University in University Park, PA. I hope to pursue a career within the magazine/online journalism field.
As a journalism major, I plan on working for a magazine company, preferably as a writer, once I graduate, then establishing my own magazine geared towards empowering adolescents with mental health problems, and finally becoming a public relations professional for a major PR company.
Right now, I am currently the editor-in-chief and co-founder of M.O.O.D. Magazine, a Penn State digital publication geared to empowering college students through fashion, beauty and relationship advice. Under my leadership, M.O.O.D. Magazine gained more than 800 fans within its first week of publication. Because M.O.O.D. is a new publication and is under-staffed, I currently write, edit, and design articles, newsletters, flyers, posters, media kits, and the website.
As a member of Happy Valley Communications (HVC) and VALLEY Magazine, I help with the fundraising/sales division and I am one of the Fashion and Entertainment writers and graphic design editors for VALLEY as well as a member of the PR committee. Within these two organizations, I have recruited many individuals for various promotional events. I am an extroverted individual who loves meeting new people; I am a very friendly person who enjoys striking up conversation with anyone. I am not scared to venture off into new experiences. Having volunteered in various activities with the disabled, in homeless shelters, and nursing homes, I find myself comfortable working with all sorts of people.
I am a detailed-oriented person, who successfully completes tasks within specified deadlines. I’ve worked as a public relations intern at CityDance Center in Maryland during the Summer of 2007. There, I attended event-planning meetings where I organized the sequence of each performance and made recommendations on conducting the backstage area. I helped keep the Spring Concert very organized and the performers on cue and in check. I designed the fliers for the concert and also sent out newsletters to the staff. I also kept an accurate database of all students, staff members, company dancers, and prospective company dancers.
Early last year, I was selected as one of 13 collegians to represent Penn State at Hearst Magazines for a day during spring break, and I was also accepted as a Peer Mentor for the College of Communications for the 2009-2010 school year. This past summer, I had secure an internship with the American Red Cross, where I planned events and wrote a newsletter. Also, this past school year, I had secured an internship with Mr Youth Ad Agency, where I planned events, wrote weekly newsletters, and managed twitter and Facebook accounts; I promote brands under Mr Youth. -- bubblepop, About Me
