About

President of CFDA, Diane von Furstenberg

The Council of Fashion Designers of America awards will be held on June 7 2010, at the Lincoln Centre. [1] The CFDA is a non-for-profit association that was founded in 1962. Diane von Furstenberg is the association's president. [2]

The organization fosters new and emerging designers. Among the organization's efforts include the CFDA, Vogue fund. [3]

Each year the CFDA awards recognize design excellence in womenswear, menswear, accessories, journalism, creative vision and a lifetime achievement award. [4]

Each year, nominations in each category are submitted by members of the CFDA as well as select retailers, press and stylists. [5]

For the first time in 2010, bloggers have been given the chance to vote for the CFDA awards. Bloggers Tavi Gevinson and Bryan Boy have both been invited by the CFDA to vote. [6] Steven Kolb, the executive director of the CFDa believes that this is a natural progression for the CFDA, who each year allow additional members of the fashion industry to vote.

In 2010 the late Alexander McQueen was honored with a Special Tribute Award. [7] Supermodel Iman was presented the Fashion Icon Honoree Award in 2010 by CFDA. [8]

In 2009 the ten finalists of the CFDA awards were given the challenge of creating an original item inspired by Google. [9]
