About

Carmen Alicia Belcher is an American entrepreneur, journalist, model, and fashion stylist. She best known for her avant-garde personal style and wild hair often shot by street-style fashion photographers and featured in magazines.

Belcher was born in St. Louis, Missouri, the youngest child and only girl of the late Leotis Belcher and Renee Belcher. At four years old her mother designed her her first custom made dress to wear on a photo shoot. Belcher's grandmother was a seamstress who designed outfits for her only grand-daughter every holiday and taught her how to sew by hand.

Career

Belcher began her broad fashion career beginning in the early-2000s, as a retail fashion expert for American Eagle Outfitters, Abercrombie and Fitch and Express. She later became known for her avant-garde artistic interests, both with her fashion designs that drew interest from her friends and for her work at The Flipside Newszine where she was the youngest staff writer contributing fashion and entertainment news reports. She spent the summer of 2004 at New York's InStyle magazine, where she interned in the fashion department under editor Sydne Bolden and at Maxim magazine in the editorial department alongside Porter Grey designer Kristen O'Neil. Belcher earned her BA in print journalism at Hampton University in Virginia. After several years as a staff writer for the Hampton Script, Belcher was promoted to lifestyle editor of the school newspaper and was awarded a Hampton Roads Black Media Professionals 2006 Stellar Student Award for her feature writing.

Her candid descriptions of her personal lingerie preferences and sex-life landed her in the Dean of Women's office, when she was featured in Maxim magazine's November 2004 issue as a model. The following year she appeared clothed in Playboy magazine while she was working for the brand as a college marketing representative.

Belcher began DressCode Deluxe Dispatch fashion blog in September 2006 while studying arts & culture reporting at CUNY Graduate School of Journalism combining it with her eBay store "DressCode314." She personal shopped, styled, and closet consulted for her famous friends upon leaving the school in 2007.

In 2008 she modeled for Metro-Pop magazine in a spread shot by fashion photographer Sarah McCologan and styled by celebrity stylist Damon Peruzzi. A musician since childhood she was courted by several record labels to sign as an recording artist but declined. In 2009 she appeared in Diddy's Dirty Money "Angels" music video directed by Hype Williams. She played for MTV2's Lingerie Football league in 2009 until a tear in her acl sidelined her. She acted as a VIP party extra in Sex and the City II in October 2009. In 2010 she was featured in the Burberry: Art of the Trench online campaign. Belcher acted as the lead in the "Selfish" music video for rapper Yung Wise in 2010.

Belcher has consulted for several fashion startups, including Yana Handbags, and is now focused on building her personal brand.
