H&M was first created in 1947 by Erling Persson in the city of Västerås in Sweden. [1] At the time the store sold only women's clothing and was known as Hennes, Swedish for "hers". [2]The store now operates in 38 countries around the world and has over 76,000 employees in 2200 stores. [3]
