[edit] About
Dear Lily the Lady,
The guys treat me like one of their own buddies to the point where they even mistake me for a man! I need your help! How can I dress like a lady? Joe
Dear Joe,
The art of being a lady is more than just how you dress, but here are some guiding pointers as you give your masculine wardrobe the overhaul of its life:
1) Wear lace.
One of the oldest forms of handicraft, lace is intricate, pretty and oozes romance! A delicate crochet lace collar on fit-and-flare dresses will gently frame your face and give clear indications that you are, indeed, female.
I would also recommend a lovely capelet of crochet lace – each lace piece was individually cut and stitched by hand onto layers of sheer netting. With this sexy little thing gently caressing your shoulders, there will be no confusion with your sex ever again.
2) Wear pearls.
In the beginning, pearls were natural and found in the sea. They were very valuable and considered as rare jewels. To have worn a string of pearls across your neck indicated you had a lot of money and hence from the upper crusts of society.
I’ll let you in on a secret. My warm, cozy cardigans are given that sophisticated touch with embellishments of Swarovski crystal pearls and lace appliqués along their collars and sleeve cuffs. These cardigans ensure that I always have my “string of pearls” on me and reassure my status in the upper classes of society.
3) Love bows.
Bows are the ultimate symbol of femininity. The sophisticated woman always embraces the feminine in her. I seek for bows in all shapes, sizes and forms. A wide collar gathered into a bow-like shape finishes off a jacket with its waist cinched in by a self-fabric belt and secured with a bow. A standing roll collar ending in a knot resembles a bow, elegantly framing my graceful collarbones and swan-like neck. Finish things off with a bow and you’ll be a “oh bow!”, never a “oh no!” again.
4) Wear classic colour combinations of Black and White
and Grey and Blue and Yellow. Because Lily said so.
5) Wear graphic geometric patterns.
Being a refined lady does not mean you have to appear passive. A knitwear range in a graphic Black/White zigzag pattern creates buzz and excitement wherever you go, making your presence felt. Being a lady does not mean being a doormat, my dear!
6) Wear silk-like finished fabrics and fine suitings.
Lastly, to see you through all occasions, ensure that your wardrobe has a balance of fine Japanese silk-finish polyester matt sateens and sophisticated Herringbone suitings. Warm cashmere/wool twill flannels and wool/acrylic knits will see you through cool winters.
Above all, darling, your beauty should look effortless. I hope all this will help you to avoid being directed to the Men’s each time you ask for directions to the restrooms.
Minding your manners,
Lily the Lady
