About
The braid is a simple yet interesting look for summer. It has been popularized again since its inclusion in Alexander Wang Spring 2010 runway show. [1] The braid has also been seen at Miu Miu Spring 2010 show and on celebrities such as Lauren Conrad, Anna Kendrick and Maggie Gyllenhaal. [2]
The braid has become more versatile with celebrities favoring loose side braids, dutch braids and side braids tucked into buns. [3]
Hair stylist Leonardo Manetti suggests working with unbrushed and unwashed hair as an easy base to braid with. To replicate this texture you can also use a texturizing spray before braiding. [4]

Side braid:Lauren Conrad has popularized the side braid in recent years. This braid is simple to emulate, although takes a little practice. Firstly part your hair to the desired thickness of your plait. [5] To start the braid simply follow the instructions below for a french braid below. Make sure when doing a side braid only take pieces of hair closest to your forehead. With the other side simply plait. This will ensure that the plait doesn't become too large. <rer> Bella Sugar </ref> Once you have reached the below your ear pin the braid to your hair. |
French braid: The french braid is the most common braid and the most simple to do. [6][7] Simply start at the very top of your head taking three small sections at the front of the hair.[8] Begin plaiting these sections, alternating from left to right. [9] As you move down the braid, add small sections of hair to the right and left pieces of the plait. Continue this until you are at the base of your hair and plait to the bottom. Secure with a hair tie. [10][11] |
Dutch braid:To create a dutch braid or "milkmaid" braid, simply begin by using a smoothing serum on damp hair. Create a center part then using the part as a guideline create two plaits and secure with an elastic. Then take each plait and pin it to the opposite side of your head.[12] |
Fishtail braid:To do a fishtail braid, it's best to start with securing your hair into a low tight ponytail. [13] |
