About
Hussein moved with his family to England in 1978, obtaining British citizenship. He first studied for a National Diploma in fashion and clothing at Warwickshire School of Arts, and continued on to study Fashion Design at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London. When he graduated in 1993 his collection, titled "The Tangent Flows", consisted of clothes which he had buried in his back garden and dug up again. An instant sensation, the whole collection was purchased and displayed in luxury designer store Browns in London.
Achievements
In 1995, Hussein beat 100 new designers to the top to win a London Design award, the Absolut Fashion Award. His reward was a £28,000 sponsorship to create a collection for London Fashion Week 1995. In the same year he collaborated with avant-garde star Björk to design her jacket for the cover of Post, a popular album of hers. The title of British Designer belonged to Hussein Chalayan for not one, but two years in 1999 and 2000. Then he received a MBE which followed with international recognition. He was awarded the Design Star Honoree by The Fashion Group International at their annual Night of Stars Gala, New York in 2007. In Febuary 13 2011, he joined with Nicola Formichetti to design many outfits for the eccentric Lady Gaga at the 53rd Annual Grammy Awards.tertrgwdrrrrgdfghrtyertrg
