About

Jennifer Affleck, born and known professionally as Jennifer Garner, is an American actress best known for her role as Sydney Bristow in the action drama series Alias.

Jennifer Anne Garner was born in Houston, Texas on April 17, 1972 as the middle of three daughters born to Patricia and William Garner. Along with her sisters Melissa and Susannah, she was raised in West Virginia, where the family had moved when Jennifer was four, in a strict conservative household where the girls were banned from wearing make-up, nail polish or even having their ears pierced.

Having studied drama at college, Jennifer moved to New York, where she worked in theater before making the move to TV with minor roles in TV movies and the series' Significant Others, Time of Your Life and Felicity. It was while working on the latter show that she met fellow actor and future husband Scott Foley. In 1999, she was cast in her first lead role in the TV disaster movie Aftershock: Earthquake in New York. For this role, she was required to finally pierce her ears, although she let them heal up again after filming was completed.

She finally hit the big time in 2001 when she was cast in the lead role of Sydney Bristow in the spy drama Alias, in which she performed most of her own stunts. This led to major movie roles including playing comic book superhero Elektra in the movies Daredevil and Elektra, although her increasing success contributed to the breakdown of her marriage to Scott Foley, which ended in divorce in March 2004. On June 29, 2005, she married Ben Affleck, who she had met while filming Daredevil, and gave birth to their first child, a daughter named Violet, on December 1, 2005. Since her marriage to Affleck, she has prefered to be known as Jennifer Affleck in her private life, but continues to use Garner as her professional name.

Just three months after the birth of her daughter, Jennifer appeared as one of the presenters at the 78th Oscars. Her outfit for the ceremony consisted of a flowing Michael Kors dress and over $1.2 million worth of jewelry, including a pair of $250,000 Fred Leighton diamond chandelier earrings that so impressed Jennifer when she saw them that she had her ears re-pierced especially to be able to wear them for the ceremony. Unfortunately, while walking out on stage to present the award for Best Sound Editing, she tripped over the hem of her dress and almost fell over. After regaining her balance, she quipped "I do my own stunts" before continuing with the award presentation. Again, shortly after the ceremony, she stopped wearing pierced earrings and let the holes heal up.

Since the end of Alias in 2006, Jennifer has concentrated on movie work, with lead roles in movies including Juno, The Invention of Lying, Valentine's Day and the remake of Arthur.

On January 6, 2009, Jennifer gave birth to her second daughter, Seraphina. A couple of weeks after the birth of Seraphina, Jennifer and her older sister Melissa were spotted visiting a Santa Monica medical practice where Jennifer had her ears re-pierced for a second time and Melissa had hers pierced for the first time at the age of 39.

Jennifer is often criticised in some publications and online blogs for her sometimes plain everyday appearance, but is praised in others for her simple but practical style, mixing simple tops and jeans with basic accessories such as small stud earrings.
