About
Karlie Elizabeth Kloss (born August 3, 1992) is an American model and ballet dancer. Kloss has been ranked 3rd on the Top 50 Models Women List by models.com. Vogue Paris declared her one of the top 30 models of the 2000s.She is best known by her hair, her legs and her walk. Kloss was born in Chicago, Illinois and then her family moved to St Louis, Missouri. Before modelling, she studied at Caston's Ballet Academy in St Louis, a very prestigious institution. She soon became very talented in dance and has performed in many performances like The Nutcracker. Kloss has called her classical ballet training "a beautiful thing" that taught her how to move in the modeling world and was a great training ground for her runway walk. When Kloss was 13, she was discovered at a charity fashion show in St. Louis. She was encouraged and inspired to model by one of her teachers in Webster Groves High School. In 2007, she signed with Elite Model Management.
Her first modelling stint was for Abercrombie and Fitch, shot by Bruce Weber.Soon after in January 2008, she left Elite Model Management for Next Model Management which later on brought her into a legal dispute when Elite sued Next for 'stealing away its young star' as they felt that they had launched her career. This took place after Kloss walked a total of 64 shows at fashion weeks in New York, Milan and Paris. The dispute was settled later on outside court.
She was named the best model by People magazine in 2008. Kloss, labeled her famed runway walk a "moody gait." Molly Sims, whom she considers a mentor, told New York Magazine she thinks Kloss is the type of model who will still "do well at 30" because of her classic look.
