About

Nathalie Kabiri is the owner and buyer for leading multi label jewellery retailer Kabiri.

The Past

Raised within the ever-changing canvas of North London, Nathalie was exposed to a range of artistic influences throughout her formative years. Guided by her parents, she explored galleries, museums and cultivated an awareness of costume through visits to the theatre, ballet and opera. Her mother’s love of art and fashion jewellery was a pivotal influence in developing an appreciation of the various facets of fashion, while her own personal discoveries cemented in her mind the importance of dressing for one’s own aesthetic. Meanwhile, her father’s strong business edge bestowed a pragmatic, grounding influence that continues to guide her in her work.

After reading Art History at the prestigious Goldsmiths in London, she worked in retail and Public Relations before making the bold decision to create her own retail brand, selling distinct jewellery pieces to the discerning fashion customer. Together with her husband Darius, they nurtured their client base, and began sourcing a wider range of styles to appeal to their growing range of clientele. Their notoriety in fashion circles soon took hold, and not long after launching the business they were able to pool their resources to open the first Kabiri boutique on the elegant, historic Marylebone high street.

The Present

Kabiri sees fashion as an expression of one’s own creativity rather than an allegiance to a tribe of uniformed seasonal style, and this determined ethic comes from Nathalie herself. A hard-working mother of two young children, Nathalie achieves the work/’look great while you live your life’ balance by addressing the reality that some days, a simple statement piece is all you have time for, and some days that has to be enough.

Inspired by fashion mavericks who embrace creativity rather than set seasons and trends, Nathalie favours a mixture of conceptual clothing and well-made vintage pieces, appreciating cut and quality while appreciating the improvement in high-street designs in recent years.

So, why jewellery? When Kabiri launched, there was a gaping chasm in the market for fresh, individual pieces of high-quality creation and design. For Nathalie, the key was recognising that the vast majority of talented jewellery designers around the world prefer working in tandem with fashion rather displaying their pieces in stark craft galleries, and so she offered them a place to present collections that worked in tandem with fashion, rather than as a separate entity. The result; a diverse and inspiring range of designer jewellery, beautifully showcased in a uniquely contemporary setting.

The Future

Nathalie continues to live and work in London, she is constantly on the hunt for new designers, always preferring in this age of homogeneity to bring in a piece that is personal and limited, with its own story and source of inspiration, for her ever-expanding clientele. She remains involved in every aspect of the company, but it is her magpie’s eye for brilliant and breathtaking designs that keeps them moving forward.

Having recently launched both a flagship Kabiri store in Covent Garden and taking the Kabiri message truly global via the newly re-launched Kabiri website, the future for Nathalie Kabiri looks set to sparkle.

Personal Life

Kabiri lives with her husband and business partner Darius Kabiri in Hampstead, London. They have 2 young children.
