About

Sassy, cult teen magazine was created in March, 1988 [1] by editor Jane Pratt, who was only 24 years old at the time. [2] In 1988 Sassy magazine had a circulation of 250,000, the magazine stalled at 800,000 in 1994 after the sale from Lang Communications to Petersen Publications. [3]

The magazine was later merged with Teen magazine. [4][5]

Sassy magazine was the only magazine that both Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love appeared on together. [6]

The magazine's popularity and subsequent shaping of teen culture, was accredited to its modeling of Australian magazine Dolly, which was known for its first person journalist and openness about sex. [7]

Sassy magazine was revolutionary for a generation of teenage girls and women in their early twenties, so much so that copies are still auctioned online for considerable sums. [8]
