About

Sofia Carmina Coppola is an American screen-writer and film director, her father is film director Francis Ford Coppola. [1] Her most notable films include, The Virgin Suicides, Marie Antoinette, Lost in Translation (for which she won an Oscar for best screenplay [2]) and Somewhere. [3]

Sofia's uniquely subtle [4] and simple style [5] has enabled her to become a style icon and muse in her own right, the style icon is often mentioned in best dressed lists.[6][7] Despite living in Paris for some time and being born in New York, Sofia thinks of herself as being "West Coast" at heart, which she describes their style as being "much more casual". [8]Elle Fanning, star of her film Somewhere, has said that Coppola is the "most stylish, coolest person ever." The pair reportedly bonded over fashion throughout the film, with Elle often wearing pieces from Sofia's friend's collection Built by Wendy. [9] [10]

She has appeared in advertisements for Marc Jacobs as well as creating a line of bags for Louis Vuitton. Her line of bags for Louis Vuitton was inspired by pieces that she herself would use. [11][12]

She has used her film talent to produce advertising campaigns for Miss Dior Cherie fragrance as well as filming the new Dior ad with Natalie Portman. [13]

Sofia began her career in fashion when she was 15[14] by moving to Paris and working as Karl Lagerfeld's assistant. [15] She later co-designed the label Milk Fed with her college friend after graduation from CalArts. [16]

Sofia lists Lauren Hutton, Tina Chow and Diana Vreeland as her fashion heroines. [17]

Her favorite pair of pants are black jeans from Swedish label Acne. [18] When asked about her style icon status, the film director says she doesn't like to think about it, although she does appreciate beautiful things, like photography and well made clothes. [19]
