About
The Selby is an home interior blog, created by Todd Selby in June 2008. [1] The site began as a project for Todd, who would post photo shoots that he completed of his friends inside their homes. The site rapidly became popular with viewers requesting that their homes be photographed by Todd for 'The Selby'. Within months, the site reached 35,000 unique visitors per day. Todd Selby was approached by companies all over the world who wanted to collaborate with him.
The idea behind the website is to go into creative people's homes and try to tell a story behind the things that they collect. Todd said he finds fashion designers, artists and creative people the most interesting and likes to photograph them the most. He prefers a maximalist approach to interiors. [2] Todd Selby started as a photographer in 2001 and began his career by producing portraiture for magazines. [3] One of the first photographs he completed within a person's home was Tom Wolfe. He has also photographed head designer of Chanel, Karl Lagerfeld. [4] It is believed that the success of his blog is due to the intimacy he captures between the subject and the audience. [5]
Toddy Selby launched his book, 'The Selby is in your place' on the 1st of April 2010.[6] [7] The book features homes from Tokyo, Sydney, LA, New York, Paris and London. [8] Many of the photographs in the 250 page book have never been featured on The Selby before. [9]
Todd was born in Orange County, California and currently resides in New York with his girlfriend Danielle, who is a designer for Alexander Wang. [10]
The Selby has collaborated with French Vogue, The New York Times and Vogue Hommes. He has also created a gallery space in collaboration with Colette in Paris. [11] The gallery included watercolours, video installations, photographs and panoramic portraits in a 8000 square foots gallery on rue Saint-Honore. [12] Todd Selby has also collaborated on projects with Nike, Cole Rood Haan, Habitat, Uniqlo, Lacoste and Vipp. [13]
The Selby photographed Cole Haan's Spring 2010 ad campaign titled the "The Inspired Life". [14]
