About

Vintage Mavens is a specialty online vintage shop and blog based in Miami Beach, FL. It was conceptualized and founded by Shareen Sarwar-Rubiera, a native New Yorker whose past resume includes companies such as Dolce & Gabbana and publications like Teen Vogue & Women's Wear Daily. Using the skills she picked up from the New York fashion industry and her schooling at Miami International University of Art & Design, Shareen & her photographer/filmmaker husband Jorge Rubiera started Vintage Mavens in 2009.

Vintage

On her blog, Shareen describes the Vintage Mavens girl to be a "fashion collector" with a smart and classic style that no one can quite duplicate. When choosing what pieces make it to her storefront, Shareen insists on making it a personal experience rather than a bulk-buying process. "I don't really go to the thrift shops any more. I used to." She prefers garage sales and estate sales instead, claiming "not only do you get to meet people that way, but you get to hear the story behind these clothes." [[1]] Vintage Mavens also emphasized the importance of recycling clothing as a way of curbing misuse of resources and strongly encourages efforts to help environmental causes.

Designing

In addition to offering rare vintage pieces to her clients, Shareen & her mother also designs hand made, one-of-a-kind pieces exclusively for sale through Vintage Mavens called Vintage Mavens Originals. "I sketch, we come up with a color palette, we figure what fabric would be favorable for the kind of silhouette I want, then we spend hours and hours in fabric stores. My mom is the genius behind it, most credit goes to her." (Amanda McCorquodale, The Miami New Times [[2]]).

Online Presence

Vintage Mavens is heavily involved with the online fashion community. They are daily contributors to street style sites such as Weardrobe and have an active fan page on Facebook. They also offer monthly giveaways to their fans as a token of appreciation for their support. Within her blog, Shareen encourages her clients & friends to be involved in these style forums and to contribute to these fashion based communities.

Currently, Vintage Mavens runs its online store through ebay. Running on the "buy-it-now" fixed price system, their prices range from $20-$150.
