The History of the Wedge Heel
1930's: wedge heel and excentricity
The first modern wedge heel appeared during the 1930's with designers such as Salvator Ferragamo or the famous French shoe creator Roger Vivier who decide to make the sole of the shoe funnier. Mirrors ! Colored leathers...etc. Both designers created shoes for the wonderful Italian fashion designer: Elsa Schiapparelli.
1939-1945: "Black Year" for wedge heels
War Time so the fashion industry gave priority to military boots...
1970's: The High Heel Madness
This is the first time the actress Jodie Foster decides to make herself taller thanks to wedge heels. From this time, the wedge heel becomes famous again a lot thanks to Mister Yves Saint Laurent. Moreover, at this time, we faced a disco atmosphere which pushed the wedge heel in the news again!
1990's: The Back Up plan
1993: the model Naomi Campbell fall from a stiletto of 26 cm during the "Vivienne Westwood" fashion-show. This moment make the wedge heel more popular. However, the issue is that the shoe became a little too much democratic for some luxury brands.
2005: A Big Come Back
In France thanks to the concept store " Colette " and a template designed by Thierry de Havillaud, the wedge heel is back in favour.
